I'm a stylist, nanny, and figure skating coach. After graduating from college and working in the fashion retail industry for several years, 2020 was the year I took my passion for style and turned it into a business! I love DIY home projects and I’m equally comfortable operating a power saw or picking out the perfect pair of shoes. I'm extremely close with my family and they are frequently recipients of my solicited (or unsolicited) fashion advice.
I had my first “virtual” styling session with Caroline, who lives in Chattanooga, TN. COVID in general has taught me to be a little more creative – in this case, figuring out how to successfully style a client from 1,019 miles away! While there’s definitely something to be said for seeing the items in real life, Facetime is a great substitute 🙂 Caroline had gotten in kind of a “style rut”, rotating through the same 5 items from her closet. After our session, she told me “I honestly had no idea how many cute things I had hiding in my closet.” I love helping clients see their items in a whole new light!
Before the session, I had her send me her Pinterest board that best described her style (or what she wanted her style to be). I looked over that & then found some pins of my own as inspiration for the outfits we would put together during the session.
Once we got on Facetime, I first had her show me her most used items. In her case, it was 3 pairs of jeans and a variety of sweaters. And, she also had a few fun hats that ended up being a super versatile accessory to pair with many different outfits!
Using the 3 pairs of jeans as a starting point, we talked about what different top combinations could be paired with them, as well as which shoes would complete the look. As we went through her items, we noticed a few things that either 1. She wasn’t very excited about or 2. Weren’t necessary for her lifestyle (as a nanny and photographer) or 3. Just didn’t fit her well. Those things we put in the “give away” pile.
By the end, I had put together a long list of outfit combinations for her that she can now reference later. I also gave her a few ideas for additional items she could add to her wardrobe, to make more outfit combinations! She can then take that list with her next time she goes shopping and find the items within her own budget.
