I'm a stylist, nanny, and figure skating coach. After graduating from college and working in the fashion retail industry for several years, 2020 was the year I took my passion for style and turned it into a business! I love DIY home projects and I’m equally comfortable operating a power saw or picking out the perfect pair of shoes. I'm extremely close with my family and they are frequently recipients of my solicited (or unsolicited) fashion advice.
Brenda has a smaaaall closet space, and it was packed to the gills. I’m talkin’ no room to move hangers, multiple things hung on 1 hanger…you know the type. 😉
We first started by taking EVERYTHING out. We piled everything by subject out in her bedroom, before going through each pile one item at a time. We determined which items were important enough to keep, and which items were headed to the donation pile.
In the end, she donated 154 items. 154 !!!!! Her hangers have room to move on the rack, she can see everything she has, and can easily pick out outfits in the morning before school. She texted me the next day and said, “Katie, my closet feels so PEACEFUL!”
Due to the volume of clothing, this was about a 4-hour project. But with 2 people (one of which being ME who encouraged decisions to be made), it went a lot faster than it could have! I put her items back in the closet color coordinated by subject (dresses, blouses, jackets).
I folded her jeans vertically in a way where she can easily grab the ones she wants without having to dig through an entire pile.
.
Here is a set of BEFORE & AFTER pictures of her closet space:
