I'm a stylist, nanny, and figure skating coach. After graduating from college and working in the fashion retail industry for several years, 2020 was the year I took my passion for style and turned it into a business! I love DIY home projects and I’m equally comfortable operating a power saw or picking out the perfect pair of shoes. I'm extremely close with my family and they are frequently recipients of my solicited (or unsolicited) fashion advice.
I recently helped Mary clean out her closet, a session that was gifted to her by her daughters for Mother’s Day. She was so pleased that her daughters had gifted the session, because it was not something she would have thought to buy for herself!
Mary had done an initial cleanout on her own before I came – pulling out items she knew she hadn’t worn in a long time. With everything that was remaining in her closet, we went through color by color to pull out even MORE items that she didn’t need anymore.
She prefers plain colored tops, with limited patterned shirts in her wardrobe. Which also means that she had accumulated multiple tops in the same color that all serve similar purposes. We laid them all out, and chose the one (or 2) in each color that fit well and are functional for her closet needs. Any duplicates were put in the “donate” pile.
After we had pared down her wardrobe, we put together a bunch of outfits and discussed style tips to help those items highlight her personal style. Beyond that, we talked about a few different ways that she could stretch her style (like wearing skirts!) and discussed a few different items she could buy to increase the versatility of her wardrobe.
But my absolute favorite part was how EXCITED she was at the end of her session. I could tell that she felt so much more confident in the wardrobe she had, and that she was excited to play around with her outfits a little more instead of wearing the same shorts and t-shirt every day.
Here is Mary’s feedback after her session:
