I'm a stylist, nanny, and figure skating coach. After graduating from college and working in the fashion retail industry for several years, 2020 was the year I took my passion for style and turned it into a business! I love DIY home projects and Iām equally comfortable operating a power saw or picking out the perfect pair of shoes. I'm extremely close with my family and they are frequently recipients of my solicited (or unsolicited) fashion advice.
Last weekend I went to Boone, NC for my college friend’s wedding and it was one of my favorite weekends in a really long time š
Have you ever experienced something that just feels like a wink from God? Like a “I see you & I love you, don’t forget it!” kind of thing? I’ve mentioned this before, making post-college adult friends is HARD. I’ve legit been looking forward to celebrating Brent’s wedding with my college friends for months. Especially in rough seasons, these little reminders that God sees us & knows exactly what we need (and when we need it) are so powerful.
This trip was such a blessing, and I wanted to give a few details about our trip & what we did and saw, in case you want to plan a similar trip!
We flew into Charlotte Airport and picked up our Turo rental car from the hourly parking lot. I had never heard of Turo before (its kind of like an Air BnB for cars, where people can rent out their own car), but after hearing about in on Instagram, I looked into it. And, our booking was $100+ cheaper than the cheapest rental car company that I could find! SO, if you’ve never tried it before, I highly recommend investigating cars on Turo when you’re looking to book your next rental car.
We pulled off on Blue Ridge Parkway for some scenic overlooks (definitely recommend going in autumn when you can see all the fall colors!)
No lie, to figure out what to do while we were there, I straight up googled “things to do near Boone, NC”. Something that popped up on nearly every list was visiting Grandfather Mountain. We parked part of the way up the mountain, and then hiked up a rocky path to the mile-high swinging bridge that you can walk across – seriously some of the most beautiful views I’ve ever seen.
We went to Old Hampton Store & BBQ for lunch – it was a super cute hole-in-the-wall type vibe with funky decore and really yummy BBQ sandwiches! That night we googled “places to go out in Boone, NC” and ended up at the Horton Hotel in downtown Boone. It’s a really cozy atmosphere with fun decor & a rooftop sitting area (if its warm enough)!
Saturday morning we walked around Blowing Rock, which is the CUTEST little small town with shops & restaurants. I’m talking like straight out of Gilmore Girls, if you know what I mean. It was a super lively little town too, with lots of people going to coffee shops & little boutiques on the main street.
Saturday afternoon was the wedding!! We got all dressed up at the hotel & then drove to Sugar Mountain where they had the ceremony. And let me tell you, it was a BEAUTIFUL venue. They got married outside, with mountain views all around! And, when the sun set, the colors were beautiful.
Details on my outfit: Dress is from Shein (currently sold out), boots were from Target a few years ago. Here is a similar non-heeled pair that is at Target now or a heeled pair from Steve Madden (affiliate links). I haven’t worn my nearly enough, but they are so comfortable AND cute, and after this weekend it got me super excited to style them in different ways for fall/winter. I even got a compliment from a random lady in the bathroom on my boots, so I feel like that is an extra WIN. š
I’m already looking forward to the next time I can visit North Carolina, cause DANG it did not disappoint.
