I'm a stylist, nanny, and figure skating coach. After graduating from college and working in the fashion retail industry for several years, 2020 was the year I took my passion for style and turned it into a business! I love DIY home projects and I’m equally comfortable operating a power saw or picking out the perfect pair of shoes. I'm extremely close with my family and they are frequently recipients of my solicited (or unsolicited) fashion advice.
Recently, I had a session that was 1/2 closet clean out, 1/2 “help, how do I organize this all”, with a little office decor mixed in.
To start, we pulled everything out of her closet. Since there wasn’t a clear organizational system, many of the things had ended up on the floor because they didn’t have an easy “home”.
We quickly talked through each piece – have you worn this recently, do you even have a REASON to wear this item, does it fit with your current lifestyle (work from home, not many fancy events), does this fit?
On one side of the bed we put the “donate” pile, and on the other we organized her “keeps” into categories: tops, sweaters, dresses, pants, workout clothes.
We then put those KEEPS back into the closet, and stepped back to see what we were working with.
This client does not like to fold things, so I knew that bins would be a perfect solution for her. They keep everything organized by category, are a “quick grab” solution, and it doesn’t matter if the stuff inside the bin isn’t folded perfectly, it will still look nice in her closet. Since she has a bunch of shelves in her closet that weren’t being used yet, we took measurements so that we could find the right bins for her closet shelves.
We took those measurements & found decorative bins (aff. link) at Target for her quick grab items (pajamas, workout leggings, tanks, etc.).
She is currently working from home, and has an office space off the kitchen. This space was feeling cluttered, so she wanted some help reimagining the space. Since she had so much extra closet space after our clean out, we decided to put her office/job related papers & such that didn’t need to be super accessible there on the shelves. We found plastic bins for those papers at The Container Store.
Ready for the before & after?
