I'm a stylist, nanny, and figure skating coach. After graduating from college and working in the fashion retail industry for several years, 2020 was the year I took my passion for style and turned it into a business! I love DIY home projects and I’m equally comfortable operating a power saw or picking out the perfect pair of shoes. I'm extremely close with my family and they are frequently recipients of my solicited (or unsolicited) fashion advice.
Ingredients needed for this renovation: ability to reference Google, a high level of patience, bandaids (for injuries sustained while removing the old toilet), an enthusiastic & willing friend, and a Bachelorette episode for entertainment.
I LOVE this transformation. From the beginning, I had told my dad I was thinking of putting wallpaper in this bathroom. The first time I said that, he straight up said “no”. And every time we would talk about it after that, he would do this weird skeptical thing with his eyebrows. If I’m being honest, his write-off of the idea made me pretty apprehensive to actually go through with it. But I found some wallpaper I liked on Target.com, crossed my fingers, and placed the order!
As you can probably guess, my dad had NO interest in installing the wallpaper – and I think it’s because he was having flashbacks of all the nasty wallpaper he’s had to remove in various rental properties he’s owned. He said that if that’s what I wanted, I could figure it out and do it myself…HA. But to my luck, I was able to recruit my friend Vivie to help me install it. We put on a Bachelorette episode and got to work! After a bit of a learning curve, we started to get the hang of it. Let’s just say that the first strip took about 50% of the total time of the project 😉 And you know what? Vivie and I had NEVER done anything like this before. And yet, it still looks pretty dang good doesn’t it?!
If you take anything away from this, I hope it’s this: MODERN WALLPAPER IS NOT SCARY. The wallpaper from the 70s we found in this bathroom, now that’s another story… But wallpaper has come a long way since the 70s! Target and Lowe’s have tons of peel-and-stick options online.
For those of you that are renting – this may be a great option for you too. Spruce up the space while you’re there, and remove it when you leave!
Overall, the only thing we kept from the original bathroom was the tile floor. We replaced the toilet, vanity, mirror, and lighting.
That’s all for the half bath – if you’re in the process of looking for a new home, my next post will be for you! Stay tuned 🙂
